CEBU CITY POLICE OFFICE SWAT, PRO-7, PNP

Being the second capital of the Philippines, Cebu City's development has reached enormous proportions. It is highly urbanized and direct flights to and from Japan, Singapore, China, and other countries around the world make it a destination in itself. Businessmen, Investors, Tourists considers Cebu as an attraction in Asia. Recently, it was one of the venue for the APEC summit. And soon, it will be the venue of other important events not only locally but globally.

Although crime has been controlled due to the vigilance and support of the Cebu City government and professional PNP personnel, crime has also developed in other parts of the country. Cebu can never be exempted from the sophistication of crime and terrorism of the 21st century.

Last September of 1997, the Cebu City government thru its Peace and Order Council headed by its chairman the HONORABLE VICE MAYOR RENATO V. OSMEÑA, the Cebu City Police Office, headed by its City Director COL. ANTONIO B. ENTERIA and the Special Action Force, PNP, thru its consultant, ALAN FRANCIS S. SY, embarked on the formation of a highly trained anti-terrorist unit. It is to be called the CCPO -SWAT.

A team of experts on counter-terrorism of the elite Special Action Force, PNP were tasked to conduct the training.

The main menu was the URBAN COUNTER REVOLUTIONARY WARFARE COURSE (UCRWC) "SURE SHOCK". This aspect of the training was given by the Crisis Response Group (CRG) of the SAF headed by its group commander, COL. BENJAMIN B. MAGALONG. Added, was a course on MORALS & ETHICS, PROPER BEHAVIOR IN COURT & BRIEF DISCUSSIONS ON CRIMINAL LAW. The course was handled by the late HONORABLE JUSTICE GERMAN G. LEE of the Sandiganbayan. A course on MEDIA RELATIONS was also added, it was conducted by HON. CERGE M. REMONDE, National President of the KBP. Soon, the SWAT team will undergo EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRAINING (EMT) & BOMB DISPOSAL courses.

After their graduation, the CCPO-SWAT team has been cited for numerous successes in operations. Incidents ranging from hostage rescue, re -arrests of escapees, armed person alarms and others. Their success led to the awarding of citations and medals to some of its members.

The FERFRANS M16PNP11 is the main assault weapon used by Cebu's most elite Police Tactical unit.
